Knowledge Base Question - ID #11

We are trying to print a directory with 200 pictures to a Tektronix Phaser color printer on a Novell Network. When I send the file to the print queue, it balloons to almost 1GB in size. the pictures only add up to about 100MB. What would explain this?

Actually the situation you describe does make sense.... What your experiencing is jpeg decompression. All images no matter what format, must be decompressed before they can be printed. jpeg compression ratios vary depending on how the file was compressed when it was saved. A 10 to 1 compression ratio is very common.

100 MB for 200 pictures is huge. Unless you are printing your full portrait size photos, you can resize your images to much, much smaller than this.
Try experimenting with resizing the images and the quality of the printed image and pick a size that produces optimal size vs. quality.
